Get outside and enjoy the fresh ocean breeze under the blue sky and palm trees — try these top Santa Monica activities
It’s easy to live like a local when you’re staying at the Fairmont Miramar because we’re at the heart of it all. Hike up to panoramic views and swim at the beach, bike the coast, shop ‘til you drop and celebrate the harvest with the LA area’s star chefs. Join our friendly, welcoming community of locals and visitors.
Vibrant and inclusive, our Santa Monica farmers’ markets are cherished community meeting places — buzzing with conversation, color, delicious aromas and fun activities. A regional market with national presence and four locations, ours is a local tradition 30 years and counting. You’re as likely to find home cooks as celebrity chefs, as well as our FIG executive chef who meets his purveyors several times a week here to inform his market-driven seasonal menu (another Santa Monica must).
Shopping is a pastime here in Santa Monica, and you’ve got everything to choose from — specialty stores, brand name flagships, upscale artist ateliers and bohemian shops. Favorite retail zones include the Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Place, the Main Street boutiques, Montana Avenue and trendy, fashion-forward Abbott Kinney in neighboring Venice. Make a day of it!
SANTA MONICA BEACH
The Miramar is just minutes from the celebrated Santa Monica State Beach. This 3.5-mile-long sandy shoreline is a postcard-perfect Southern California playground, lined with palm trees and a bustling boardwalk. Picnic, swim and sail, surf and paddleboard, dine overlooking the ocean, shop and play at the world-famous Santa Monica Pier. Take advantage of our seasonal complimentary Miramar Beach Club — a private area on the beach exclusively for our guests with games, activities, equipment and a full-service menu.
The steep, green Santa Monica Mountains stretch from Malibu all the way to downtown Los Angeles with surprisingly quick access to the wilderness. Hike the extensive trail network — some 500 miles — of this coastal range, marked with numerous historical and cultural sites (Native American cultural centers, famous movie ranches), which rewards hikers with glittering city vistas and sweeping views across the Pacific Ocean. For adventurers, the epic Backbone Trail is one of the most diverse treks.
BIKE THE BOARDWALK
Take one of our complimentary beachcombers and pedal all or part of The Strand, a 26-mile coastal cycling path that extends from Pacific Palisades to Torrance. Or, bike around pretty Palisades Park and detour for a picnic, lunch out at a cute waterfront café or nap on the sand.
